A porcelain mask from Japan, Showa period (ca. 1970–1980), inspired by the Kongōrikishi guardian kings, finished in red lacquer, 21.5 cm high and 13 cm wide, in good condition with minor signs of aging and including the original red hanging cord.
Description from the seller
This is a ceramic mask from Japan's Showa period, inspired by the *Kongōrikishi* (Vajrapani/Guardian Kings). Finished in red lacquer, the mask features a fierce expression with glaring eyes, a furrowed brow, and an open mouth; the facial musculature is rendered with great dynamism, and the crown is sculpted with snail-shell-like curls (*rahotsu*), lending it a majestic and solemn air. It is equipped with holes for a cord and comes with its original red hanging cord, ready for immediate display. The piece is in excellent overall condition, bearing the natural signs of age and use—such as the natural aging of the lacquer—without any significant damage.
