AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

NOSTRADAMUS (Michel de)
Prophecies of Michel Nostradamus, of which there are three hundred that have never been printed; Found in a Library left by the Author. New edition, According to a Copy found in the Library of the famous Pascal. With the life of the author.
Riom, from the printer Landriot, no date. Circa 1790.

Volume in-12 (about 14 x 8.5 cm) bound in full brown marbled calf of the period, boards adorned with a fine gold border of roulettes, smooth spine ornamented with compartments bearing gilded floral motifs, title label in black morocco, marbled edges, marbled endpapers. Wear and losses to the binding. Very decorative.

The interior preserves paper of good quality, enhanced by remarkable freshness despite very rare and discreet foxing, complete with its original marbled endpapers and its text well legible printed in a fine provincial typography.

The enlightened bibliophiles traditionally flock to provincial eighteenth-century editions bearing this famous mention that the text comes from the library of the “famous Pascal.” Long surrounded by suspicions regarding their exact authenticity, these Riom fantasies have fueled the greatest cabals of cabinets of curiosities in the nineteenth century, esotericism enthusiasts snapping up these small pocket volumes to hunt for the secret keys to France’s destiny hidden by the Provençal seer.

A fine copy.
