AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A particularly distinctive and decorative still life of flowers by François (Frans) Van Rompaey (1878–1955), the Antwerp architect and master builder who played an important role in the architecture of Antwerp in the early 20th century.
Van Rompaey established himself around 1905 as an architect and designed numerous town houses, apartment buildings, churches and garden suburbs. He worked in a variety of styles, including eclecticism, Beaux-Arts and architecture with Art Nouveau influences. Among his documented realizations are, among other things, his own architect's house on Wetstraat in Antwerp and several large garden suburbs in Hoboken. Inventaris Onroerend Erfgoed
Less known is his activity outside architecture. This signed painting reveals that more personal artistic side.

The work presents a colorful bouquet of flowers in a dark glass vase, with a bright green apple beside it. The painter uses a loose, lively brushwork and strong color contrasts. In particular, the yellow of the flowers and the green-blue of the background give the work a fresh, modern look.
The painting is clearly signed in the lower right corner “F. V. Rompaey” and is offered in a richly decorated, gold-colored frame.

A special testament to the artistic versatility of an important Antwerp architect.
