Model History:

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date traces its design heritage to 1938. Its generously sized crown was originally intended to be easily operated by pilots wearing gloves, while the central pointer hand provided a clear and elegant way of displaying the date around the outer edge of the dial.

This reference 7400 dates from the 1990s and retains the collection’s characteristic oversized signed crown, fluted bezel, cathedral-style hands and centrally mounted pointer-date hand. Its relatively compact stainless-steel case is complemented by an elaborate two-tone dial and an exhibition case back displaying the decorated automatic movement.

Condition:

The watch is in very good vintage condition and presents attractively. Its elaborate two-tone dial combines a warm ivory-toned central section with a finely patterned guilloché hour chapter and a contrasting silver outer date track. The printing, applied Arabic numerals and triangular hour markers remain clear and well defined.

The gold-tone cathedral-style hands and central pointer-date hand complement the warm colour of the dial.

The stainless-steel case displays light scratches and normal signs of careful previous use. Its polished surfaces remain bright, while the characteristic fluted bezel and angular lugs retain their clearly defined shape. The oversized signed crown is present and operates correctly.

A new, clear and scratch-free acrylic crystal has been fitted. The exhibition case back provides a view of the decorated Oris calibre 574 automatic movement and gold-tone rotor. The fitted brown leather strap is new and complements the watch’s warm vintage appearance.

The movement has been fully serviced in September 2026, and all functions are operating correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on functionality.
