Original oil on canvas by Gaston Quidousse, titled Marina con veliero e figure, 37 × 47 cm (framed 30 × 40 cm), dating to 1980–1990, Belgium, Realism in the Flemish Romantic tradition, signed by the artist and sold with its period wooden frame.
Description from the seller
Fascinating oil on canvas signed by the Belgian painter Gaston Quidousse, known for his evocative representations of marine landscapes, romantically and seafaring-inspired subjects.
The work captures with great dynamism a scene of navigation on the open sea: a clipper with imposing sails in warm tones faces the agitated waves, accompanied by the flight of seagulls and a crew of sailors dressed in traditional dark clothing and hats. The chromatic contrast between the amber-red sail, the cool spume-laden tones of the stormy sea, and the softly lit sky gives the painting extraordinary depth and a strong emotional impact.
The painting is signed by the author in the bottom right corner. It is accompanied by a contemporaneous wooden frame with a gilded inner profile that frames and enhances the work.
Also included in the sale are a biography and an original certificate (the gallery receipt and a description from Galerij Rembrandt with a photographic biography of the artist), elements that attest to its provenance and enhance its collectible value.
