Description from the seller

La Madonnina" after R. Ferruzzi in Ornate Baroque Gilt Frame - Rome 1948 with Handwritten Dedication

Description:

An elegant mid-20th-century Italian devotional picture depicting the famous "Madonnina" (Madonna of the Streets), originally painted by Roberto Ferruzzi. The print features vibrant, rich colors and is protected under glass.

The artwork is housed in a magnificent, highly ornate Florentine/Baroque style rectangular wooden/gesso frame with an oval inner opening. The frame is finished in antiqued gold leaf/gilt finish with a beautiful, deep three-dimensional structure and finely engraved floral/acanthus leaf patterns on the flat margins.
The back of the piece is covered with a traditional Italian decorative paper featuring red fleur-de-lis (Florentine lilies) and retains its original triangular hanging loop.

Crucially, the reverse bears a significant historical provenance: a handwritten dedication in Polish, dated directly in Rome: "Pamiątka z Rzymu od zawsze wdzięcznej... Rzym, 15 listopada 1948 r." (A souvenir from Rome, from the ever-grateful... Rome, November 15, 1948). This makes it a documented historical travel souvenir from post-war Italy.

Condition:

The object is in very good, authentic vintage condition, commensurate with its 78 years of age. The frame retains its gorgeous natural patina with minor, age-related wear to the gilding, enhancing its antique character. The stucco work and the print are fully intact. No modern alterations or restorations.

• Frame Style: Baroque / Rococo revival with oval inner opening

Craftsmanship & Casting Technique Each sculpture is individually cast using the traditional lost-wax casting method (cire perdue) and meticulously hand-finished by skilled artisans. This prestigious technique is renowned for capturing exceptional detail, refined textures and the timeless beauty of fine bronze sculpture, ensuring that every piece possesses its own unique character. As a natural consequence of this artisanal casting process, small residual particles from production may occasionally remain inside the sculpture. This is an inherent characteristic of the traditional manufacturing technique and does not affect the quality, structural integrity, durability or artistic value of the artwork in any way.
