Description from the seller
Splendid and exceptional archival collection consisting of 24 original-era advertising pieces (32x24 cm), drawn from the most prestigious French luxury magazines of the mid-20th century (such as Plaisir de France and Réalités). The lot spans a period from the late 1930s to the early 1970s, documenting the golden age of Parisian haute perfumery.
All 24 plates are originals from the period and mounted on a rigid archival cardboard support (era cartonage/entoilage). This conservation treatment has perfectly protected the paper for decades, keeping the pages taut, perfectly flat, free of creases or tears and ready to be inserted into standard 24x32 cm frames. The condition of the paper and the colors is excellent.
The lot boasts the presence of the world's most legendary houses and includes pieces of great rarity:
• CHANEL: Iconic black-and-white advertisements for Eau de Toilette N°5 and the exclusive Extract N°22.
• CARON: An exceptional sub-archive including the extremely rare “Triad” of the Le Muguet du Bonheur launch (including the first illustrated editions of 1952 in a medieval-tapestry style and the 1958 dove edition), plus the famous Poivre (1954) and La Fête des Roses (1950) with its cubist bottle.
• GUERLAIN: The magnificent and sought-after atmospheric graphics for Vol de Nuit (animalier background) and the optical insert for Chant d'Arômes (1963).
• JEAN PATOU: The famous geometric Art Deco print for JOY, “the most expensive perfume in the world.”
• MOLINARD & LENTHÉRIC: Rare historical inserts, including standout black-and-white pre-war masterpieces (1936-1939) such as Shanghai and Le Vertige.
• VARIOUS ELITE HOUSES: Elegant monographic sheets dedicated to Givenchy (Le De), Lanvin (Arpège), Houbigant (Chantilly), Le Galion (Sortilège) and Lucien Lelong.
The lot is further enhanced and historically certified by the related editorial text pages from the magazine, including vintage articles signed by the famous French journalist and political scientist Georges Rotvand. A unique opportunity for collectors, antiquarians or interior designers seeking a coordinated, high-impact visual set for boutique interiors or design spaces.
