Description from the seller
Elegant celadon-glazed Longquan bowl-note from Longquan, China
This rare and authentic stoneware bowl is a fine example of the famous production of the Longquan kilns, in Zhejiang province, China. These pieces were highly prized for their thick, rich glaze, which imitates the smooth color and texture of jade.
Dimensions: Diameter about 19 cm, height 4 cm.
Description: The bowl features a flared form with a slightly inward-rimmed edge and a small unglazed annular foot with a clay color that is referred to by collectors as (iron foot) a color more often seen in the southern Song official kilns or in Junyao ware. This piece remains a typical exception in the productions of its era due to the color of its clay.
The celadon glaze is a deep, olive-grey-green hue. The wear visible at the center of the basin and along the rim testimony to long use and the venerable age of the object.
Condition: Good overall condition considering its age, with signs of wear, minor firing imperfections, and a thin stabilized hairline crack along the worn right edge, visible in the photographs.
Provenance:
This Longquan celadon stoneware plate comes from a European private collection, assembled with care. The piece was acquired on the international market of Asian art from specialized sources, kept since purchase in a tightly curated setting within my collection of Chinese cultic artifacts; unfortunately, no older documented provenance was transmitted before its entry into my collection.
A fascinating collectible for connoisseurs and professionals of ancient Asian art and historical ceramics.
