A persglas Art Deco bowl designed by Thomas Davidson and made by Davidson's & Co in the United Kingdom, 25 cm wide, 25 cm deep and 8 cm high, in excellent condition with an early cloud glass design.
Description from the seller
This glass bowl is an example of pressed glassware known as 'cloud glass'. Cloud glass was developed in 1923 by Thomas Davidson of George Davidson & Co in England and was made by adding streaks of dark-colored glass to lighter glass, creating a dramatic effect of swirling clouds. New, inexpensive and aesthetically appealing, cloud glassware was an immediate public success and was quickly adopted by other companies, including Sowerby in England and Walther & Sohne in Germany.
'Purple Cloud' was the first in the range produced by Davidson's & Co. This bowl is therefore attributed to them. Later in the 1930s cloud glass was produced in a range of different styles and colors, including topaz, green, grey and blue, sepia (brown). Different manufacturers used different colors.
The bowl is made with a matte exterior and a glossy interior. Perfect condition.
Photographing purple is not easy. The purple color is in reality much deeper than the photos imply.
