Copper dragonfly ornament by Annosuke, a Japanese Art Deco piece dating to 1926–1989, with openwork wings and a realistic segmented body, in good condition with small signs of aging.
Description from the seller
A copper dragonfly ornament crafted by the renowned Japanese metal artist Yasunosuke. A master of biomimetic metal sculpture, Yasunosuke specializes in creating realistic metalwork depicting insects, birds, and animals, excelling at replicating biological textures in metal. This piece is created using openwork carving techniques; the wings faithfully reproduce the dragonfly's natural reticulated venation, achieving a delicate appearance while maintaining structural stability. The segmented body, compound eyes, and legs are all realistically modeled—with the legs being articulated—and the artist's signature is chased onto the abdomen.
"Annosuke" is the hereditary title held by the masters of Ryūbundō, a renowned metal-casting lineage from Kyoto. Since the Edo period, Ryūbundō has stood as a premier Japanese metal-casting workshop. Each successive Annosuke has been a master craftsman of the highest caliber, deeply dedicated to the art of lost-wax casting and celebrated for creating tea ceremony implements and small-scale metal sculptures.
