Olfert Dapper, Umständliche und eigentliche Beschreibung von Asia, translated and illustrated edition in German, a bound 556-page work on Mesopotamia, Babylon, Assyria, Anatolia and the Arabian Peninsula, measuring 33.5 × 22 cm and dating to 1681, with 17 double‑page maps and 22 copper engravings in good condition.

“Circumstantial and Accurate Description of Asia,” Olfert Dapper 1681.
A comprehensive geographical and cultural-historical work on Mesopotamia, Babylon, Assyria, Anatolia, and the Arabian Peninsula.
What is treated are the countries and cities of these regions as well as their history, religions, forms of government, customs, costumes, wildlife, flora, and trade relations. Special attention is given to the Arab peoples, Islam, and the historical traditions of the Near East.
With all 17 double-page maps and 22 copper engravings.
The pages are overall well and very cleanly preserved. There are occasional minor stains; further back the pages are slightly browned.
The title copperplate is partly somewhat painted and the prelim title is loose.
The map on page 80 has been somewhat restored and reinforced on the back at the lower corner.
The map “Abidos in Asia” has a fairly unobtrusive pencil sketch.
The last map has a larger tear in the inner area, without substantial impairment of the depiction.
The last 2 leaves of the index are missing.
The binding is somewhat loose, but still firm. The spine has gaps at the top and bottom capitals.
