Studio di ornato - brocca e rosetta foglie d'acanto, an Italian nineteenth‑century drawing set by the Italian school (XVIII) in red pencil on laid paper, unsigned and in good condition, comprising two sheets measuring 24 x 18 cm total.
Description from the seller
Pair of refined original drawings executed in sanguine on watermark paper, attributed to the European academic school from the late 18th to the early 19th century. The lot consists of two exquisite sheets that attest to the high level of study in classical ornament and architectural design typical of the era's academic tradition. The first drawing depicts an elegant neoclassical-inspired decanter, richly detailed with geometric festoons, fluting on the body, and a refined volute handle with foliate motifs; the second sheet presents a complex square rosette, characterized by a symmetrical, radial development of finely modeled acanthus leaves. This kind of graphic composition was produced within art academies and artisanal workshops as decorative models or preparatory studies for the realization of bas-reliefs, interior stuccoes, boiseries, or architectural elements. Both works stand out for an excellent command of chiaroscuro and for the softness of the red pencil stroke, which gives the compositions a marked plastic effect and a three-dimensionality of great visual impact and formal elegance. A collection of notable collectible interest for enthusiasts of antique graphics and traditional decorative arts.
