Description from the seller

Romain Steppe Antwerp 1859 - 1927. Romain Steppe is known for his seascapes, marine views that he painted in a realistic style with an impressionistic touch.
Wrote many along the banks of the Scheldt, on the Belgian coast and in the Antwerp port. From his seascapes one can see his interest in the changing effects of light and the characteristics of sunlight according to the hour, the season and the weather. He later also painted in England, the Netherlands, Italy and France. He returned to Antwerp in 1887, where in 1888 he became a member of the art association "If I Can", founded by a number of former students of the Antwerp Academy. He was friends with E. Verhaeren and Isidoor Meyers, and often stayed in Sint-Amands.
