Description from the seller
Wolfram Prasthan Dachauer
La rose
Oil on canvas
Signed
40 x 60 cm
The work entitled "La rose", created in 1973, is a fascinating and deeply evocative example of the painterly vision of the Austrian artist and graphic designer Wolfram Dachauer (Linz, 1940 – 2016). After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and exploring painting expressionism during the 1960s, Dachauer developed a highly personal style that constantly probes the subtle boundary between dream and reality. From 1975, following a trip to India, the artist decided to adopt the spiritual name "Prasthan", bestowed upon him by the renowned philosopher Osho. From that moment his production often embraced dreamlike and introspective atmospheres, reinterpreting real landscapes through emotional, surreal, and mysterious filters.
The painting in question fits this figurative trajectory excellently. At the center of the composition, in a stark, arid, dark foreground, a solitary red rose unexpectedly blooms. The flower is surrounded by delicate butterflies in flight and seems to radiate a almost mystical glow, standing as a powerful symbol of vitality, fragility, and hope within an otherwise barren and inhospitable landscape. Guiding the gaze toward the depth of the scene, a majestic and silent natural panorama opens up, completely devoid of human presence.
A stretch of water with deep, changing tones is enclosed and protected by dark, sinuous mountain ridges, recalling the aesthetics of magical realism. The entire scene is dominated by a dramatic, theatrical, and magnetic sky, animated by intense light contrasts between imposing clouds and hints of bright light. A flock of birds flying in the sky contrasts with the stillness of the land, emphasizing visual dynamism in an atmosphere of deep temporal and spiritual suspension. The work bears the artist’s signature accompanied by the dating "73" placed in the lower right corner of the canvas. On the back, directly applied to the frame, is the original label that certifies and summarizes the main information of the composition: the artist’s name, the title, the year of realization, the technique (oil), and the dimensions of the painting. The painting is finally enhanced by a sober and linear wooden frame that elegantly perimeterizes its evocative tones.
The frame, if visible in the photo, is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, given its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage suffered by it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall-mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the work. They can be removed upon request at no extra cost. Please let me know if you prefer the work shipped without it; otherwise I cannot take responsibility.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
If the package is returned for an incorrect address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer must pay for a second shipment and cover return costs.
I also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT, and customs duties are borne entirely by the buyer and will be collected by the authorities of your country upon delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. As an alternative to shipping, if possible, I always recommend and strongly encourage pickup in Geneva, as it eliminates transportation costs and ensures maximum security for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during the journey."}
