Wilhelm Hambüchen (Düsseldorf, August 8, 1869 - same place, September 5, 1939) was a German painter.
He painted often in the North Sea region and specialized in coastal and sea scenes.
Hambüchen attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Düsseldorf; from 1895 he began working as a freelance artist, initially as a landscape painter. In 1898 he traveled to the Belgian coast, and since then he specialized in coastal and sea scenes. Up to the First World War he would annually return to the North Sea coast in the summers. At least in 1905, 1906 and 1908 he worked in Katwijk aan Zee and subsequently until 1914 also regularly in Nieuwpoort on the Flemish coast.
Hambüchen is regarded as part of the Düsseldorfer Schule and painted in an impressionist style. With broad and loose brushstrokes he painted the fishing smacks, the beach with grand cloud formations, and the fishing community in the surf after the catch. He died in 1939 at the age of 70.
Works by his hand are in the possession of the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf and the Katwijks Museum.
