About the Distillery
Glendronach Distillery has a rather turbulent history. Although the whiskey was sold in London shortly after the distillery was founded in 1826. Here the distillery was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1837 and the distillery's owner, James Allardice, declared bankruptcy in 1842. Fortunately, Walter Scott saved Glendronach from extinction and bought distillery in 1852. The buildings erected under Scott's supervision still stand today.
In 1920, Charles Grant, son of William Grant (of Glenfiddich fame), bought Glendronach and in 1967 the distillery was sold to Wm Teach & Sons. After several changes of ownership (Allied Distillers, Pernod Ricard, The BenRiach Distilling Company), the distillery is now owned by Brown-Forman, the producer of Jack Daniels.
Glendronach is an old-fashioned and typically sherry-influenced malt that reflects the Victorian roots of the buildings.
