Antique Indian teakwood temple fragment sculpture dating to the early 19th century, with a modern metal stand, measuring 73 cm high (64 cm without stand) by 12 cm wide and 21 cm deep, originally polychrom-painted and attributed as Original.
Description from the seller
Large antique Indian temple fragment – hand-carved teakwood sculpture with original mount (19th century) on custom-made stand
Description
For sale is an exceptional and characterful piece of Asian handicraft: An antique Indian temple fragment (architectural wood carving / column or roof support) from the 19th century.
The masterfully hand-carved teakwood relief depicts a traditional, graceful figure – presumably a Devi (heavenly deity) or a divine musician – in flowing, detailed clothing and traditional headdress.
Features & Condition:
Original condition: The sculpture still retains large portions of its original green-blue polychrome paint, which over the decades has formed a fascinating weathered patina.
Authenticity: This is a genuine historical fragment that once formed part of the magnificent wooden architecture of a temple or a traditional house (havelis). Nothing has been restored to preserve the raw, historically rich original character.
Presentation: The object is stabilized on an elegant, modern metal stand, allowing it to be immediately placed as an exclusive gallery- or decorative piece in any room.
Please examine the numerous close-up photos carefully; they are an essential part of the condition description.
