Maritime knot board on a wooden panel dating to 1970–1980, made of wood with iron fittings and rope, measuring 103 cm by 52 cm by 4 cm in good used condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Maritime knot board – decorative rope work on a wooden panel
A world of seafaring art on the wall! This maritime knot board attracts attention with a rich collection of knots, weaves, loops and winding. The warm, glossy finished wood forms a lovely background for the gold-brown and darker rope work. A continuous rope border frames the whole and emphasizes the nautical character.
From compact end knots to elegantly woven mats: each detail catches the eye. Notably the cord-wrapped arched shape, the tassel, the wooden bulb-shaped elements and the examples with metal eyes and steel cable. Together they form an engaging presentation of different techniques and materials.
Knot boards fit within the tradition of visibly presenting practical and decorative rope work. Royal Museums Greenwich, for example, preserve a knot board with joining knots, turns, splices, a ship’s wheel hand grip and a clock cord. This specimen aligns with that maritime tradition in its setup; the maker, original function and exact dating are unknown. (rmg.co.uk)
A atmospheric wall object for a study, nautical interior or collection of nautical artifacts. The combination of wood, rope and metal gives the board a lot of relief and makes it attractive up close as well.
