Description from the seller
Important Marina
of the Late 19th / Early 20th Century on Panel with Oval Contemporary Frame
63 x 48 painted
66 x 80 frame
Description
The work is an fascinating oil painting on panel depicting a genre scene of the sea with sailing boats and fishermen.
The piece stands out for an excellent atmospheric and luminous rendering: the diffused light reflects on the calm waters, calculated with greenish and bluish tones of great visual impact. In the foreground the detailed figure of a fisherman handling the nets on a brig stands out, an element that gives life and narrative to the composition.
The painting technique is characterized by rapid, bricky/impasto brushstrokes with a post-impressionist imprint, showing strong stylistic and execution affinities with the famous Neapolitan or Venetian School at the turn of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The work bears a cursive signature in the lower right, partially readable (initial "G"), worthy of further study.
The Frame
The painting is enhanced by its splendid oval period frame in wood and gilded plaster. The back of the frame reveals refined artisanal workmanship in sectors (in sixths/shards) joined manually, an element that certifies its authenticity and contemporaneity with the painting. The profile features a deep smooth groove framed by a sumptuous relief border with acanthus leaf volute motifs.
