Description from the seller

Renaudot, M
Algiers: a description of the kingdom and the city of Algiers and their surroundings, etc., together with an account of the customs and manners of the country, and a historical introduction on the various military campaigns from Charles V to the present times; with a charter, a view of the city, a Latin inscription, and illustrations of the inhabitants and the national costumes.

Stuttgart: Publisher of the work’s expedition: Our Time 1830 Military campaigns since Charles V

First Edition

Frontispiece, XXXVIII, 150 pp.
The edition includes a map, a view of the city, a Latin inscription and illustrations of local customs.
Contemporary binding with marbleized plates, spine with friezes and gold lettering, presence of foxing and stains on the inner pages.
Plates and map intact and in addition in very good condition.

The book is of great historiographical interest as it was published exactly in 1830, the year of the French conquest of Algiers. It represents a chronicle and a geopolitically immediate guide to the North African territory written by a French officer on the ground, promptly translated for the curious German-speaking public about the military developments in the Mediterranean.
