MEDSAN - Chihiro and the Soot Sprite (千尋とススワタリ) - UNIQUE WORK

THERE IS ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

On this square format, Medsan shows Chihiro, the heroine of Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli, in profile, leaning on her hands cupped together. In her palms sits a soot sprite, a small tufted ball of soot with big round eyes, offering a candy-shaped star to her reach. This konpeitō glows with an orange light and illuminates from below the girl's face: her large brown eyes wide open, rosy cheeks, a smile born of surprise and tenderness. She wears the pink outfit of bathhouse workers, sleeves held back by a white ribbon tied in her back, and her chestnut hair pulled into a ponytail by a pink elastic. Around them, only a dark brown background, almost black in the corners, where the only light comes from the candy. Salmon pink, white, deep brown and an orange halo compose the entire palette. The scene carries the softness of a secret encounter.

A soft and luminous piece, ideal to bring a touch of Ghibli poetry to the interior of a sensitive collector who loves Miyazaki's universe.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; under the name Popsan, he revisits pop culture icons by blending pop art, Japanese art, and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop artworks still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates at Atelier Joconde, a family-run artists’ workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
