On this square format, Medsan sets up Goldorak, the giant robot by Go Nagai (UFO Robot Grendizer, Toei), in the middle of a wheat field at sunset. Motionless, fists at his sides, he holds his head high under his golden horns and looks into the distance. His white, black, and red armor is speckled with rust, and ivy climbs along his legs up to the knees, as if he hadn’t moved in years. At his feet, minuscule, a dark horse stands in the tall grass.
Behind him, the rolling countryside descends between cypress trees and farms to a lake where the setting sun throws a trail of light, beneath a village perched crowned by a tower. The blue sky fills with clouds edged in a warm gold. Down in the bottom right, the cartouche メドサン. The ochre of the wheat, the blue of the sky, and the red of the chest echo each other. A giant at rest, welcomed by the countryside.

A unique and nostalgic piece, ideal to bring a touch of luminous melancholy to a collector’s interior who grew up with Goldorak.

Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the universe of medicine and anatomy; under the name Popsan, he revisits pop culture icons by blending pop art, Japanese art, and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates at Atelier Joconde, a family artist workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
