AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Main features of the work:
Carlo Prada (1884–1960) • “Tramonto” (1936) • Oil on canvas • 63×82 cm, 66×85 cm with frame • Signed and dated lower right • On the back, label from Galleria Pesaro and title • Authenticity Verbale n. 118/2025 from Il Ponte • Provenance Galleria Pesaro, Milan

The work belongs to Italian figurative painting of the twentieth century, Realism style.

“Tramonto” is a fascinating hilly landscape, with houses immersed in vegetation and paths crossing the countryside. The sky, illuminated by the delicate colors of sunset, creates a striking contrast with the deep greens of the landscape. The rich, tactile brushwork gives power and depth to the composition.

Carlo Prada’s painting activity begins with Divisionism and later engages with the experiences of the twentieth century and Chiarismo. The artist nevertheless develops a personal language within Italian figurative painting, characterized by extraordinary sensitivity to light, rich color, and a free, thick brushstroke, particularly evident in “Tramonto.”

The painting, signed and dated 1936, is presented in a sober gilded frame and accompanied by the Verbale di Autenticità n. 118/2025 from Il Ponte. On the back it preserves the title and the label of the prestigious Galleria Pesaro in Milan, which documents its provenance. Founded by Lino Pesaro in 1917, it was one of Milan’s most important art galleries of the twentieth century. Among other notable events, it hosted in 1923 the first exhibition of the Seven founders of the Novecento movement, including Mario Sironi and Achille Funi.

Carlo Prada (Milan, 1884 – Santa Margherita Ligure, 1960), trained at Brera and supported by Alberto Grubicy, participated in numerous Venice Biennales. In 1937 Galleria Pesaro devoted a solo show to him, just one year after the creation of “Tramonto”: a meaningful chronological proximity that further enhances the prestigious provenance of the work.

The purchaser will receive the work in careful and durable packaging. Very fast shipment.

The color rendering and the perception of details in the photos presented here may vary slightly depending on the screen used by the viewer; in person the artwork retains its full visual presence.
