"L'Art de Naviger" by Claude-François Milliet de Dechales, 1677, originally in French, illustrated edition in a bound volume, 350 pages, 23 x 19.5 cm, in good condition with browned pages, early water stains up to mid section and worm tracks in the inner margins, binding spine restored, and missing pages 25–30 in the second part.
Description from the seller
“L’Art de Naviger“, Claude-François Milliet de Dechales 1677.
Very rare work on the art of navigation and practical seamanship, in two parts. It covers, among other things, determining the ship’s course, the use of nautical instruments, as well as calculation and orientation at sea.
The first part contains numerous wood engravings in the text and the second part includes full-page, partly fold-out tables.
The pages are somewhat browned due to age. At the beginning up to about halfway there are stronger water stains in the upper area. Throughout, there are wormholes in the inner area of the pages. These are initially quite noticeable, then lessen, and toward the end become stronger and larger again. They are almost all outside the text and cause at most a small loss of text.
Pages 25–30 in the second part are missing.
The binding has been lightly restored on the spine and is somewhat rubbed.
Collation: 10 leaves, 264 (recto 274) pages, 47 (of 53) numbered pages
Dimensions: 23 x 19.5 cm
