Description from the seller
Oil painting on canvas depicting a young woman in a Mediterranean folk costume, depicted full-length as she walks barefoot along a pebbled beach, beside a wooden fishing boat hauled ashore. The figure wears a white puff-sleeved blouse with a wide neckline, a lacquered leather-colored bodice, a broad orange-red skirt draped and overlaid by a long dark blue cloth tied at the waist; a yellow scarf keeps back the long wavy brown hair. In the left hand she holds a terracotta jug, while with the right she rests on the edge of the boat.
In the background unfolds a coastal view with rough sea, waves crashing on the shore and a rocky promontory that closes the composition on the right; the sky is animated by soft clouds on a blue background.
The painting style is academic-narrative, with particular care in the shaping of the face and complexion, in the luminous rendering of the fabrics and in the movement of the water, according to a salon-like eighteenth-century painting genre highly sought after by collectors.
Signed at the bottom left "BRANDO".
