Description from the seller

TITLE: 1751 Methodus Studii Medici (2 Complete Volumes) - Ed. Albrecht von Haller & Boerhaave. Luxury Binding, 4 Folding Plates & Wandelaar Frontispiece, Royal Swedish Court Provenance (Uppsala, 1838) & Centenary Herbarium Specimen.
DESCRIPTION:
An absolute masterpiece of European scientific and mystical heritage. This is not merely an antique book; it is a profound time capsule of the Enlightenment.
This pristine set contains Volumes I and II complete of Herman Boerhaave's magnum opus, deeply expanded by his most brilliant disciple, Albrecht von Haller (Amsterdam, Jacobus von Wetstein, 1751). Printed on masterfully crafted handmade rag paper with historical watermarks, it features its original luxury leather binding with ornate gilt tooling. The four folding technical plates and the allegorical copper-engraved frontispiece by Jan Wandelaar are in flawless condition—an extraordinary rarity for 18th-century medical treatises.
PROVENANCE & HISTORICAL SECRETS:
The lineage of this copy is impeccable. It bears the official institutional library duplicate mark ("Dupl.") and the handwritten ex-libris dated May 24, 1838, by the famous intellectual and Swedish Royal Court preacher Anders Jacob Cnattingius (Uppsala). It was later preserved in the private library of an eminent Professor of Medicine.
As an invaluable archaeological treasure, nestled within its botanical and pharmacology chapters lies a perfectly preserved, centuries-old rowan leaf (Sorbus aucuparia). The rowan, traditionally revered in Northern Europe as a sacred shield against venom and malevolent forces, remains fossilized over the Latin text. A monumental work where the Essence, the Presence, and the Illusion of Western history are forever bound for the ultimate connoisseur.

TITULUS: MDCCLI Methodus Studii Medici (Tomus Primus et Secundus Integer) — Alberto ab Haller & Hermanno Boerhaave. Compactio Luxuriosa, Icones Volubiles et Frontispicium Wandelaar, Provenientia Regia Upsaliensis (MDCCCXXXVIII) et Herbarium Centenarium.
ELOGIUM:
Haec rariora volumina Tomum Primum et Secundum integros comprehendunt, a celeberrimo Alberto ab Haller locupletata (Amstelaedami, sumptibus Jacobi a Wetstein, 1751). In charta textili archaica cum signis aquaticis impressa, haec muta temporis testis nitidissime servatur. Frontispicium allegoricum a Ioanne Wandelaar sculptum et tabulae geometricae integrae manent. Ex bibliotheca A. J. Cnattingius (Upsaliae, 24 Maii 1838), regis Sueciae contionatoris, et postea clari medicinae professoris. Intra eius paginas de re botanica, folium arboris Sorbi aucupariae antiquum velut arcanum signum temporis usque ad hodiernum diem perfecte conservatur.
