AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A Grand red wine from Burgundy located in the commune of Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Pinot Noir. The vines are 50 years old.

Red winemaking: we seek fruity, rich wines with soft tannins, as well-ripened grapes are able to provide. We bring the grapes in small crates to carry out meticulous sorting in the winery; a belt allows us to fill the vats while preserving the grapes. The fermentation lasts 15 days with punch-downs so that the richness and the colour from the skin are transmitted to the wine before pressing. The aging takes place in barrels, 20% of which are new. Racking with a bellows eliminates the use of pumps. All these precautions help minimize handling of the grapes and wine in order to preserve all its richness.

Terroir: the Corton hill rises to the north of Beaune.

Corton is a compound meaning "the court of Othon." The term cortis denoting the enclosure, the manor court in medieval Latin became the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa used to designate a domain whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy.

Corton occupies the south-facing slope of the hill. In the Côte de Beaune, it is the only red Grand Cru.

Corton is produced on two climates, Corton Combbes (valleys), Corton Les Chaumes (stony plateaus) and La Voie Rosse (an old form of "rousse" probably referring to ferruginous soil).
