Description from the seller
Nice pastel-drawn artwork on cardboard by the painter Arnaldo Ferraguti (Marrara, April 17, 1862 – Forlì, December 4, 1925) in good condition.
The work measures 53 x 42 cm.
The frame is original to the period and has its protective glass.
We have published in the photographs some similar works by the painter.
Born in Ferrara in 1862, Arnaldo Ferraguti trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and later studied in Francavilla al Mare with the verist painter Francesco Paolo Michetti, who remained, with his repertoire of bucolic and popular themes, a constant artistic reference for him.
In 1891 he gained international notoriety with the vast painting Alla vanga and he married Olga Treves, niece of the famous publishing brothers Emilio and Giuseppe Treves. This enabled him to combine his painting activity—supported, moreover, by an intensive exhibition policy—with a career as an illustrator for books and magazines (Cuore by Edmondo De Amicis, Vita dei campi by Giovanni Verga, hundreds of plates for L’Illustrazione Italiana, etc.).
He redefined his social status by building a villa in Pallanza, a place where he taught painting to Sophie Della Valle di Casanova Browne and where he frequented the cultural salon of Villa Cordelia, in which Giuseppe Treves hosted prominent figures such as Gabriele D’Annunzio and Giovanni Verga.
A chemist by experimentation, in the course of the 20th century he devoted himself to the industrial production of paper parchment and an artificial leather invented by him.
Died in Forlì in 1925.
