Splendid and imposing decorative textile tapestry woven on a loom (Jacquard/Gobelins-type machine-made), without a frame… only a tapestry. The work depicts a rich and elegant gallant pastoral scene in the 18th-century Rococo style, inspired by the famous paintings of François Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard:
On the left: A young suitor approaches a damsel seated near an architectural ornament, while a boy watches curiously from behind a tree.
In the center: A flock of sheep grazing near a watercourse with a pastoral village landscape in the background and classical architectures.
On the right: A group of figures in period clothing, including a musician playing the bagpipes, accompanied by a shepherd’s dog.
The rendering of colors and textile details is well preserved, ideal for furnishing period living rooms, entryways, or environments with a classical/antique taste.
