The painting shows a lively scene on the shore of Hardelot-Plage, the well-known French resort on the Opal Coast. Spread across the wide sandy beach, elegantly dressed bathers enjoy a day by the sea. Ladies in long dresses and hats sit together under parasols, while other figures stroll along the tidal line. In the distance, a few sailboats are visible.
