Description from the seller
Portrait of a man with a pipe in a red jacket
This oil on panel from the mid-20th century powerfully captures the gaze of an elderly man with psychological force. The subject is depicted three-quarters, wearing a striking fur hat and smoking a clay pipe with a long stem. He wears a vermilion red dressing gown with broad lapels, which contrasts magnificently with the black turtleneck and the cool, almost bluish tones of the background window.
The technique is characterized by a generous brushwork and strong impasto, especially visible in the modeling of the face and the reflections on the jacket, offering superb texture and a striking relief in the light.
The work bears the signature "Franz Klein" in the bottom right.
Object details:
• Support: Oil on rigid panel
• Overall dimensions with frame: 41 cm x 34.5 cm
• Dimensions of the artwork itself: Approximately 32.5 cm x 26 cm
• Weight: 1.5 kg
• Condition: Very good preservation of the pictorial layer. The colors have retained their original freshness and intensity. The painting is presented in its era goldwood frame, whose old patina perfectly complements the authenticity of the ensemble. Ready to be hung.
A very beautiful oil on panel, full of presence and character, which will make a magnificent portrait for a collection or a warm focal piece for your home. A very beautiful authentic painting not to be missed!
