Grenades is a 2026 oil painting by Natalie Didukh from the United Kingdom, 30 × 30 cm, signed, original edition, depicting a still life with two pomegranates.
Description from the seller
“Grenades” presents two pomegranates arranged on a pale stone surface against a deep, almost black-green background. One fruit remains whole, its red skin catching the light, while the other is cut open to reveal a dense arrangement of glistening crimson seeds enclosed within pale, irregular membranes. Loose seeds scattered across the ledge introduce smaller accents of red, drawing the eye through the composition and emphasising the contrast between the fruit’s exterior and its richly detailed interior.
Natalie Didukh combines careful observation of natural forms with expressive brushwork and a dramatic treatment of light. The saturated reds and burgundy tones emerge from the surrounding darkness, while subtle highlights reveal the varied textures of the skin, seeds and inner flesh. The restrained composition recalls the tradition of classical still-life painting, yet its bold colour and tactile handling give it a contemporary presence. Through the contrast between the intact and opened fruit, the painting explores the visual richness of nature and the unexpected intensity of an everyday subject.
