Title:
David Bekker (1997) – Original Ex Libris "Salomé - Homage Oscar Wilde" for Dr. W. Pungs
Description:
For sale: a stunning, high-quality graphic work by the internationally renowned Ukrainian master-graphic artist David Bekker (1940–2022).
This highly refined piece from 1997 is an official Ex Libris artwork, commissioned by the well-known German Ex Libris collector Dr. Wolfgang Pungs. In the background frame, the text is beautifully engraved in the etching plate: "EX LIBRIS DR. WOLFGANG PUNGS". The work is fully signed in the lower right corner of the plate with "D. BEKKER - 97".
The theme of this Ex Libris is a powerful, symbolic tribute to the famous play "Salomé" by the Irish writer Oscar Wilde. This is also noted on the back in pencil, together with the handwritten collection number 102 from Dr. Pungs’ estate. The composition shows the sensual, richly detailed Salomé in the foreground, with the tragic depiction of the head of John the Baptist in the lower left.
