Description from the seller
Ganchо Ganchev / Gana, born in 1990, graduated from Emiliyan Stanev Secondary School in 2009 and from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Veliko Tarnovo in 2014, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Painting. He works in the fields of painting, mural art, and the curation of various visual projects. In his canvas work, he combines different techniques, including oil paint, acrylic paint, spray, and collage. He has held 11 solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions.
The painting is part from the latest exhbition of Gancho Ganchev, LAST DROP.
Gancho Ganchev’s paintings combine pop art aesthetics with documentary fragments—everyday scenes, abstract patterns, and colorful glitches. His images suggest the contradictions of industrial dreams as they clash with the environment.
In “Last Drop,” we see tubes, funnels, cans, and drops—containers and devices for dispensing and storing petroleum products in everyday life, which themselves serve as portraits of their main source. We have normalized the perceived danger into an acceptable notion of consumer satisfaction.
Built on the principle of an image within an image, a detail within a context, Gancho Ganchev’s compositions employ clear visual codes of familiar symbolism and allude to broader economic interdependencies. The oil industry and the geopolitical mechanisms surrounding the extraction and distribution of natural resources constitute the thematic focus of his latest series of paintings. It is a matter that deeply concerns him and is evident beneath his bright colors.
While the exhibition space immerses us in the raw materiality of industrial architecture, Todor Hubchev’s soundscapes capture the acoustic environment of crude oil extraction and production processes. Industrial romance—we inhabit this familiar environment daily and comfortably.
