Description from the seller
Fascinating and iconic art print depicting one of the most famous works by the master of optical illusion and impossible perspectives, M.C. Escher.
The work represents an impossible building and a surreal world in which the laws of physics and gravity are overturned:
• The three gravitational fields: Within the same scene, three different directions of gravity coexist. What for one character is a horizontal floor, for another (located at a right angle or inverted) becomes a vertical wall or a ceiling.
• The stairs and the buildings: The architectural structure is composed of 7 stairs that intersect paradoxically. Going up or down the same stairs, the characters find themselves walking in different directions (some head up, some sideways, others normally).
• The characters: In the environment 16 stylized little men (faceless and anonymous) move about performing everyday actions—such as walking, climbing stairs, looking out the window or sitting in a garden—without displaying any sense of bewilderment or noticing the absurdity of the place they are in.
• The three vanishing points: To create this optical illusion, Escher uses three different viewpoints and vanishing points that merge into a single unified composition.
Notes on authenticity: the print bears at the edge the official copyright and the printed signature with the artist’s monogram and original date, in addition to the official credits.
We guarantee fast and secure shipping. Perfect packaging in a folder or rigid tube.
