Biography
Karl Korab is an Austrian painter and graphic artist who gained international fame primarily for his landscapes and still lifes.
Born in 1937 in Falkenstein, Lower Austria, as the son of a forester, Korab already in his school years harbored the desire to become an artist; painting and drawing were his outlet. His preferred motifs were landscapes, still lifes, and portraits.
From 1957 to 1964 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, under Sergius Pauser and Herbert Boeckl. During his training he met representatives of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism (Ernst Fuchs and Anton Lemden) and temporarily adopted their painting style in the manner of the Old Masters.
For his artistic work Korab has received numerous awards, including, in 2012, the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the State of Lower Austria. His works are today in numerous collections, both in Austria and abroad.
