Description from the seller

Dimensions: 103 x 126
Unframed
Oil on canvas
Oil on canvas work depicting the Madonna and Child by Alessandro Vitali.
It presents in fair conservation condition, with patina and light signs of aging.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and lawful provenance.
Insured and trackable shipment.
Whoever has a minimum familiarity with Central-Northern Italian painting from the transition between the 1500s and 1600s would instantly recognize the mark of this small panel in excellent condition.
The composition is indeed derived from the analogous passage of the Madonna with Child with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Francis from the Brera Pinacotheca, and today housed in the National Gallery of the Marche, a masterpiece by Urbinate Federico Barocci whom scholars place around 1560.
Stylistic analysis points to the hand of one of the most faithful and talented pupils of the Urbinate master, the Pesarese Alessandro Vitali, who died eighteen years after Barocci.
Note in the lower part of the painting, in inverted position, the initial idea for a portrait.
