Description from the seller
Pierre Matisse, New York 13.5.1963. In sheets 29 x 23, black blind-embossed cover, with a mute slipcase. Original edition. One of 228 copies numbered after 22 in roman numerals, with a manuscript text by the author and an original drawing by the painter, printed on Canson paper in various colors. 10 illustrations by Yves Tanguy, namely one color miniature reproduction of a small painting mounted as a frontispiece and nine drawings printed in facsimile by Daniel Jacomet. A rare and precious work, with a total edition limited to 250 copies, of outstanding quality in the reproduction of manuscripts and images, thanks to the famous Jacomet process. Originally the texts, taken from various collections published between 1912 and 1941, were not intended to be published, but the son of the famous painter, a New York art dealer, managed to obtain from the author permission to do so, the latter even writing on this occasion a preface dated 1963.
