Description from the seller
A remarkable old amulet figure from the western coast of Geelvink Bay, West Papua, measuring 31 cm in length.
This impressive wooden object features two carefully carved human figures, most likely representing ancestral spirits. The composition is particularly striking, with both figures forming an integral part of the object. Such carvings reflect the rich artistic traditions and spiritual beliefs of the coastal communities of northern New Guinea.
The amulet has a wonderful old appearance and a strong sculptural presence. Despite its considerable age, it remains in good condition, with the signs of wear and age that contribute to its authentic character.
