Magnificent, monumental and heavy antique putto (musician cherub) from the 19th century, executed in the rich style of Baroque revival (Historicism). This sculpture is entirely hand-carved from a single solid piece of wood (except for the wings, which in accordance with historical tradition are professionally mounted with wooden dowels).
The angel is very detailed and expressively carved while playing a lute. The sculpture weighs no less than 5 kilograms, a testament to the massive, heavy quality of the woodcarving. The finish consists of an authentic, layered polychrome painting which gives the piece a splendid, time-worn patina. Very likely originating from a prominent religious woodcarving workshop in southern Germany or northern Italy (Val Gardena).
Condition:
In good, authentic antique condition with characteristic signs of age that contribute to the charm. There are early cracks in the wood and in the paint layers visible.

Shipping is possible but somewhat complex. The wings are fragile. For transport they could possibly be dismantled. Caution advised. This could, however, cause minor [repairable] damage. Buyer bears the risk.
