Vibrato A1S alto saxophone, made in Thailand from high-strength polymer, weighing about 800 g, in regular physical condition and functional, includes a soft case.
Description from the seller
A distinctive, light alto saxophone with character
I present an alto saxophone from the Vibrato brand, an instrument that does not resemble conventional saxophones. It is made of high-strength technical polymer, in matte white with orange inserts. It is a striking piece and also an instrument designed for comfortable playing.
The inserts are orange, so it is probably the A1S model. According to Wikipedia, the A1 has gray pads and the A1S have orange ones. It isn’t entirely certain, because the photos do not show any model number.
About the Vibrato brand
Vibrato is a modern brand in the world of the saxophone. It has specialized in plastic saxophones and proposes a serious alternative to metal. It revisits a historically significant idea: back in the 1940s the famous Grafton saxophone, which Charlie Parker played at the legendary Massey Hall concert in 1953, was made of plastic. Vibrato revives that concept with current materials and design.
Vibrato is a Thai company, Vibrato Co., Ltd., based in Bangkok. It was founded in 2009 by saxophonist and entrepreneur Piyapat Thanyakij.
The saxophone weighs about 700–850 grams, making it the lightest saxophone and perfect for children or people who cannot bear weight.
Notable qualities
- Very light. Its weight is noticeably lower than that of a brass alto saxophone [indicate approximate weight in kg if you have it]. It shows in long practice sessions, rehearsals, and concerts. It is ideal for those who want to reduce load on the neck, back, and shoulders.
- No rust. The plastic does not suffer corrosion, verdigris, or lacquer loss. It is very durable and easy to maintain.
- Resistant to knocks and scratches. It handles daily use very well. In the photos the body looks clean, smooth, with no cracks or breaks.
- Complete mechanics. Keys, rods, and pillars are complete, with no broken or missing parts visible at a glance.
- Orange synthetic pads and bumpers. A distinctive and practical design. The pads look whole, clean, and well seated in their sockets.
- Unique aesthetics. With its white and orange finish it stands out on any stage. It is an instrument with personality, very photogenic.
- Good candidate for students, travelers, and collectors of unusual instruments.
Adjustable by the player, not requiring a luthier
An important advantage of this instrument is that you can replace the pads and adjust the saxophone yourself, without needing a luthier. Its design facilitates maintenance. This saves workshop costs and you can tune the instrument with basic tools and a bit of patience. For anyone who enjoys tinkering with their instruments, it’s a great opportunity.
Condition: what you should know
I want to be completely transparent:
The saxophone is currently somewhat misaligned. It needs a general service and mechanical adjustment to be played normally. I have not tested it under performance conditions. At a glance, the overall condition is correct. The body, neck, and keys are complete and show no visible damage. The pads look in good condition.
The case is in very poor condition. It is a navy blue fabric case, with stains and wear. The handles are cracked and worn, and the interior is very deteriorated: lining torn, foam and cardboard exposed. It serves for storage or provisional transport, but it should be replaced.
Includes
