AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The Pit of the Penultimate Innocences.

The editions of lestol docells de pas. 1993. Camilo J. Cela

Camilo José Cela and Josep María Subirachs, 64 handwritten texts by Camilo José Cela and 64 illustrations by Josep María Subirachs made on the same sheet with the watermark of the authors' signatures used for the edition, unpaginated, mounted pages 43 x 35 cm. In Spanish. Luxurious binding in editorial cloth and case, box in rustic cardboard. New.

The well-known Fernando Lázaro Carreter, who was director of the Royal Spanish Academy, wrote about this work in 1993:

Because, to Camilo's voice answers Josep Maria's pencil, merging into the unity that results from translating for the eyes a sonic language: after reading each of the sixty-four brief prose pieces that make up the narrator's part, the gaze can yield to the mute and pleased confirmation of reading in the corresponding version of the illustrator, which is not mere illustration, as I say, but corroboration and synthesis and a key with lines and spaces, of everything the words say. Never, for certain, so fused, because these words are written by Cela on the same face of the sheet and with the same type of pencil with which Subirachs draws. Then, of course, those words are transcribed in clear typographic characters, so that each prose is shown in three versions: the manuscript, the drawn, and the transcribed. It is not superfluous to note that the makers of the sumptuous paper, the lithographer, the printer and the editor, attentive to the gestation, have also contributed to the almost cathedral-like majesty of this volume.

The copy offered corresponds to the print run of nine hundred and thirty-five copies signed by hand, this being copy number 534, signed by the authors. There exists a register book of the edition kept at the Camilo José Cela Foundation in which the vicissitudes and circumstances of each of the copies are recorded.
