Description from the seller

Friedensreich Hundertwasser:
“936 The 30 Day Fax Picture, Vienna, 1994”.

Color offset print, produced in gloss with high color intensity.
Condition: the work is in very good condition.

The work was released by Taschen in 1997.

The ground of the original painting consists of thirty A4 faxes that were sent daily between October 1 and October 30, 1992 from New Zealand to Vienna. Hundertwasser copied them onto prepared paper, glued them to a canvas and then painted over them. We do not know what the faxes contained; we can only vaguely see vertical lines where the edges meet. But the fact that the painting does not rest on a neutral sheet of drawing paper, but on a pictorial ground with a 'story', is important to the artist. In his earlier work he often used materials such as used paper, envelopes and invitations; their texture made it easier for him to begin the arduous task of painting.

In the case of Hundertwasser’s Fax Picture, however, the texture of the underlying pages is of secondary importance; what counts is their function as a medium for rapid information transfer. The painting surface is covered with countless motifs from the artist’s characteristic formal repertoire: strips of ground, air and water, spirals, globe-like trees, round heads, winding roads and waterways, boats and vehicles as children would paint them, onion domes and mouth-shaped ships. An apparent chaos in which everything nonetheless has its place and function; a pulsating and dynamic complex in which everything is interconnected.

Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The shown photos are part of the description.
