Description from the seller
Very rare and original double-handled ceramic pitcher, enameled and hand-painted by Simone LARRIEU.
Signed at the base of the body.
Simone LARRIEU (1912-1996) is a great French ceramicist.
Her works are particularly rare on the market and highly sought after, due to limited production and a high standard of execution.
Her already strong market value continues to rise, from France to Asia.
Simone is the daughter of Octave LARRIEU, a ceramicist himself, with whom she worked in a small workshop they created in 1930 in Maubourguet in the Hautes-Pyrénées. His focus was more on shapes, while Simone focused on the décors, as she was also a watercolourist.
Many pieces signed by Octave bear a decoration executed by Simone.
In 1939 she opened her own workshop in Gironde, without completely abandoning the family workshop. She devoted herself more to painting after World War II. Simone's ceramic works are described as exceptional by specialists.
Decoration of flowers and stylized clematis leaves in red, pink, violet, yellow and brown on a beige background.
Late Art Deco period (1940-1950).
Excellent condition, like new (no cracks, no hairlines, no missing parts, no chips).
For seasoned collectors.
Dimensions approx. in centimeters:
Height: 21.5 cm
Width (including handles): 19 cm
