J P Molenaar (1914 - 1990) - Havengezicht

Molenaar, Johannes Petrus "Joop". Born 29 April 1914 (Rotterdam) - died 1990 (Rotterdam). Molenaar made many drawings when, between his 15th and 16th years, he worked as a sailor with the Rotterdam Lloyd and later with Van Ommeren. In 1930 he changed careers and went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, where he received lessons from, among others, Aart Bijl, who encouraged the young Joop to devote himself to drawing and painting ships and harbors. Molenaar lived and worked in Rotterdam, where he was regarded as part of the "harbor painters" due to his specialization. He was a member of the Rotterdam Art Foundation. J.P. Molenaar painted on commission the Zuiderzee works and the closing of the Lauwerszee. Canvas size 60 - 40 cm Incl. frame. 71 - 51 cm
