Description from the seller
Mid-Century Wall Coat Rack in Brass and Plexiglass - Gio Ponti Style - Italy, 1950s
Refined and rare wall-mounted coat rack of Italian manufacture from the 1950s, perfectly embodying Italian Mid-Century Modern aesthetics, strongly linked to Gio Ponti's style and designs.
The design is distinguished by a sophisticated combination of high-end materials typical of the era: double hooks and flared conical uprights in solid brass, enriched by a characteristic horizontal curved transparent Plexiglas (Lucite) insert. This fusion between the warmth of brass and the modernity of plastic was conceived to visually lighten the lines of the object. The structure is mounted on a solid rectangular stained wood base.
On the back there is a rare original metal classification medallion from the period with impressed stamping (CAT. 1 / LET. A / N. 47), attesting to its origin from an archival supply batch or from a prestigious interior commission. The wall-mounting system is fully concealed, thanks to the plates.
Good general vintage condition. The piece is structurally solid, intact in every component, and fully original. It features an attractive, natural patina of time on the brass and light signs of surface wear on the wood (small scratches and abrasions visible in photos, consistent with its age), which underscore its historical authenticity. It has not undergone any covering or invasive restorations, preserving its original state.
