Arturo was the man behind the driver himself
who saved Niki Lauda from the flames
in that terrible accident at the Nordschleife.
Born March 11, 1943 in Civenna,

Arturo Merzario is remembered by all not only for winning two editions of the Targa Florio,
but above all for the heroic gesture at the 1976 German Grand Prix,
when, together with his colleagues
Guy Edwards and Harald Ertl,
he pulled Niki Lauda from the burning car,
saving his life.
