Sculpture, Set Antieke Wandplaquettes – Christus met Doornenkroon en Maria - 23 cm - Metal, Wood - 1940

A splendid, perfectly matched pair of religious wall panels featuring the facial likenesses of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

This characterful set consists of two identically shaped, solid wooden planks in a classic shield form.

High-quality metal reliefs (high-relief) are affixed to the panels:

1. Jesus Christ with the crown of thorns, very finely and expressively worked.
2. The Virgin Mary (Mater Dolorosa) with a restrained, serene and finely detailed facial expression beneath her veil.

Both reliefs have a beautiful, well-aged patina that adds extra depth to the details. The panels are connected at the top and equipped with an authentic, sturdy hanging cord. They together form a beautiful diptych for the wall. Perfect for lovers of religious art, antiques, or as a unique historical decorative piece.
