Description from the seller
Miguel de Cervantes – Don Quixote of La Mancha.
Italian illustrated edition by Salvador Dalí, published in 1965 by Aldo Palazzi Editore.
Copy from the famous out-of-commercial edition, originally published in installments in the magazine Tempo (1964–1965).
This edition is part of one of the most significant publishing projects of the 20th century dedicated to Don Quixote.
Salvador Dalí interpreted the figure of Don Quixote in a surrealist and symbolic key, making him an emblem of idealism, of lucid madness and of the conflict between reality and fantasy.
The illustrated edition was initially published out of commerce, in 27 installments of 16 pages each in the prestigious Italian weekly TEMPO, from September 16, 1964 to April 14, 1965, before being gathered into a volume by Aldo Palazzi Editore.
This edition unites one of the best-selling and most translated books in history, together with one of the most important painters in the world, yielding a unique edition, ideal for true art collectors, rare books and special editions.
The translation by Vittorio Bodini has been licensed from Einaudi, and the printing — both in black and white and in color — was carried out at the publisher’s laboratories in Milan, finishing on April 7, 1965.
The cover, with a drawing by Salvador Dalí, was produced by Piolini and Rotta under the direction of the publisher’s artistic department.
