Chess set - Wood

Stunning, classic late 19th-century French Regency chess set and a solid wood game board.

The chess pieces are made from turned and carved boxwood. The bishops and king have twisted rings (spherical and disk shapes) that are typical of the Regency or régence style. The chess pieces can be stored in an authentic wooden box with a sliding lid. The king's height is about 87 mm, at the time the standard size for home use and in French cafés.

The game board measures 41.5 x 41.5 cm. The dating and origin of the board are unknown.

The game and the board are in good to very good condition and show only light signs of use/wear. For a good impression, please view the photos.
